Hearing Screening

Whether your baby was just born or your child is a little older, keeping an eye on their hearing is an important part of monitoring their development. In fact, the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that all children be screened for hearing before they leave the hospital.

Screening for hearing loss helps parents understand and identify any unique needs their child might have. For example, if a child isn’t performing well in school and all other avenues check out, a hearing screen could reveal that they simply aren’t hearing the teacher very well. They could be too embarrassed to admit this and need their parents and pediatrician to advocate for them.

Early intervention is key to getting your child the treatment they need to succeed. The earlier hearing loss is detected, the sooner you can get your child treated, possibly identify the cause, and even halt future hearing loss.

The longer hearing loss goes undetected, the more likely it is that your child will experience delays in their learning. This is because children learn from the moment they are born and hearing plays an important role in how they process the world around them. Without the ability to hear, their speech and language patterns will be delayed.

At Peekaboo Pediatrics, we take the health of your child’s hearing seriously. That’s why we offer hearing screening for children of all ages. Our compassionate team will choose the best hearing test for your child and conduct in a way that makes them comfortable and at ease.

Hearing screenings are painless and non-invasive. They’re performed in office and parents can be present. These tests take about 15 minutes to complete and can create a starting point for your child’s treatment over time.
